Uganda Pray for UCTA (Uganda Christian Teachers Association) to find a new National Coordinator, as Shedrack Musinguzi, the current Coordinator, will be moving on at the beginning of January 2009.

January 7.

The Stapleford Centre Heather Miller says: ‘Give thanks to God for the successful REthinking series, for primary and secondary RE teachers. The series is now drawing to a close in its present format. Pray for wisdom for the resource development team, as plans are made for a resource to follow on. 

January 8.

Kenya Ruth Nabie, Head of Education at Inter-Christian Fellowships’ Evangelical Mission (IcFEM), Kimilili, says: ‘Our school year starts in January. Please pray for the right choice of needy, bright students for the very few new Mission sponsorship places available – both Primary (in IcFEM Dreamland Education Centre) and Secondary (in local secondary schools). 

January 9.

Teaching practice is a stressful time for both the student and the teacher. Pray for Christian students to be well prepared and willing to learn. Pray that in their classroom work they will be a witness to their mentors. 

January 10.

Slovakia Chris Elston says: ‘Please pray for me to be useful in God's hands in His work of calling, saving and discipling the students that He sends me.’

JAMES 3:1 (TNIV) Not many of you should presume to be teachers, my brothers and sisters, because you know we who teach will be judged more strictly.

ACT Scotland Julie Fermor says: ‘Give thanks for the two recent Open Evenings which were attended by many non-members. Inspirational speakers and a real sense of fellowship and encouragement were enjoyed by all who attended.’

Tanzania Avril Kassell of Haven of Peace Academy says: “Staff are training on the subject of ‘Having a Biblical Worldview’. This is our theme for staff and students this year. In every aspect of our lives we are asking: What does God have to say about this?”

Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs) need support and encouragement throughout their probationary year. Pray especially for Christians in their probationary year. 

January 15.

Pray especially that they will be encouraged in their Christian faith as they go to secondary school.

School governors Thank God for the many hundreds of Christians who are effective and influential school governors. Pray for their ongoing work and witness. 

January 17.

Jan Hodgkinson, ACT's secretary, updates the ACT website, collates prayer requests for the ACT Prayer Guide and helps to produce ACT Now. Please pray for her today.

Isle of Wight ACT Group is planning an evening 'Bring and Share' meal on Tuesday 20 January. Sydney Olympic Gold Medallist, Louis Attrill, will be sharing about his Christian faith. Pray that new contacts will be made. 

January 21.

Kenya Edith Currie at AIC Missionary College, Eldoret, says: ‘Pray for staff changes at the Missionary College as the January term begins. My colleagues, the Davis’s, return after a year’s home assignment in the USA. I myself will be on home assignment in the UK until August 2009, possibly extending for a year’s study leave until Sept 2010. Pray for all the adjustments that need to be made.  

January 22.

Education lecturers and researchers Ask that more Christians will be drawn into universities, colleges and institutes where they might become beacons of inspiration and encouragement to Christians working elsewhere in the educational arena. 

January 23.

ACT’s Board of Directors meets from Friday 23 to Sunday 25 January in London. Pray for wisdom in arrangements to begin the process of appointing a new Chief Executive, and to maintain and extend ACT’s Christian voice in education.  

January 24.

ACT Wales June Miller says: ‘Please ask for wisdom as to whom we should invite to speak at this year’s Annual Lecture.’ 

January 25.

PSALM 18:28 (NIV) You, O Lord, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light.

Kenya Edith Currie of AIC Missionary College, Eldoret, says: ‘Pray for the new students who have joined the mission class this January as they adjust to studying and living at the college. Pray that these students will sense God’s call upon their lives and will be well prepared for future missionary service.’ 

January 27.

UCCF (Universities and Colleges Christian Fellowship) Elizabeth Fraser says: ‘Pray for the effect that all those who have come to know Christ through the FREE gospel project, could have in classrooms and staffrooms around the UK.’ 

January 28.

Principals, headteachers and senior managers Pray that more Christians will answer God’s call to be ‘servant leaders’ to students, staff and the wider community. Ask that they are blessed with wisdom and humility in all they think, say and do. 

January 29.

India Alastair Reid of Hebron School, South India says: ‘Our Std 11 ‘trial’ exams begin today. Please pray for students and staff. The semester starts for everyone else on 4 February.’ 

January 30.

Littlehampton and Arun Local Group meets for the first time today to share news, to encourage one another and to pray for each other and our schools. The meeting will be at Parkside Church, St Flora’s Road, Littlehampton BN17 6BD from 7- 9pm. Refreshments will be served at 7pm. February 2.

Peru Sarah Tester is training mums and teenagers in a Lima shanty town to lead ‘The Ark’ play scheme which helps children develop through play. Pray the trainees will learn well and thus be able to continue this ministry. 

February 3.

ACT Local Groups Pray that through ACT's network of local groups God will richly bless Christians working in education. Ask that God will raise up more Local Contacts and Event Organisers to carry out His work. 

February 4.

ACT Wales Please pray for our committee meetings; we are having difficulties getting together because of our commitments as teachers.  

February 5.

National Conference for Christians in School Leadership at Coton House, Rugby, Warwickshire (5-6 February 2009). The title is ‘Aiming Higher – Authentic Christian leadership in 21st Century schools’. Speakers include David Wells and Revd Canon Janet Muhindo. Pray for the delegates, speakers and organisers. For more details, visit the ‘Events’ section of the ACT website. 

February 6.

Indonesia Gwyneth Jones says: ‘In July-August several theological colleges, using short-term workers, hold intensive English courses with a Biblical basis. Pray for students to come to a deeper faith as the workers model personal commitment to the Lord Jesus and concern for the unreached local community.’
